Itinerary
Arrive in Sri Lanka and receive a warm welcome. Travel to Chilaw to visit the ancient Munneswaram Temple, believed to predate the Ramayana and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Continue to Manavari Temple, where Lord Rama installed the first Ramalinga Shivan lingam after his victory over Ravana-one of only two such lingams in the world. Proceed to Sigiriya and check in to your hotel.
Journey to Trincomalee to visit Thirukoneswaram Temple, a sacred site linked to both Lord Shiva and the Ramayana. This coastal city is also home to beautiful beaches and the famous Koneswaram Kovil, believed to be built by Agastya Rishi on Shiva’s instructions. Return to Habarana for the night.
Explore Sigiriya, which local legend connects to Sita’s captivity. Continue to Kandy, stopping at sites of Ramayana significance along the way.
Visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, then explore Peradeniya’s Royal Botanical Gardens. In Kandy, discover the city’s spiritual heritage and, if time allows, visit local temples.
Travel into the cool hills of Nuwara Eliya, stopping at the Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda, a key site honoring Hanuman’s devotion. In Nuwara Eliya, visit the Seetha Amman Temple at Seetha Eliya, believed to be the site of Ashoka Vatika where Sita was held captive, and see the mysterious footprints attributed to Hanuman.
Take a scenic journey to Ella, home to Ravana Falls and Ravana Cave-sites associated with Sita’s captivity and Hanuman’s search for her. Explore the lush surroundings and return to Nuwara Eliya.
Travel south, stopping at Divurumpola Temple near Welimada, revered as the site of Sita’s Agni Pariksha (trial by fire) to prove her purity. Continue to Kataragama, a multi-religious pilgrimage town.
Visit Ussangoda, a unique landscape said to bear the scars of Hanuman’s burning of Lanka. Proceed to Colombo, stopping at additional Ramayana sites as time allows.
Explore Colombo’s spiritual landmarks and, if time permits, visit the Kelaniya Temple, believed to have been visited by Lord Buddha and linked in local tradition to the Ramayana.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward journey, departing with a deeper connection to the epic Ramayana and Sri Lanka’s living heritage.
